Artist Statement
The base form of Quick Attack was an accident. One day, while painting another canvas, Pohly flicked his hand in a way that looked like a Kachoo. He was excited and rushed to paint what would become Quick Attack.
Coconut's Critique
The Japanese Katakana descending vertically on the right side of the canvas spells out a phonetic translation of “Quick Attack.”
Sashaying yellow strokes outline the minimalist, abstract styled, gesture form of Kachoo, dashing across the canvas. Bold, black tapered slashes whisk across the canvas for detail. The eggshell white background is sporadically splashed with tendrils of butter yellow flecked across the work in splatter.
A stamp in the top, right-hand corner complements the piece, intended to be reminiscent of stamped artwork originating from Japan or China.
