In deviation from the other works of this kind, kiwi is wearing boots rather than standing on black forked feet.

ccentuated by the reflective silver paint on his safety vest, this kiwi follows the iconic Rawry & Pohly style of flat, bold colours, variated
line weights, hard lines, and a superior understanding of shape.
The shared use of butter yellow between the hat and the beak creates a seamless accent for the top of the work. The embellishments of the hard hat function as eyebrows, creating the impression of a stern expression.
In deviation from the other works of this kind, kiwi is wearing boots rather than standing on black forked feet.
Overall, this piece feels more solid, weighty, and round than other kiwi’s, an effect to drive home the nature of Safety Kiwi’s intent.
Artist's Statement
I
have fond memories of my dad coming home in overalls with the reflective, safety tape on it.
That was just another facet of our lives and that was okay.
